Born and raised in Kaunas, Lithuania Virgilijus attended the Kaunas J. Naujalis School of Arts and in 1983 graduated with a design degree from the Vilnius Academy of Arts (formerly known as the State Art Institute of Lithuania). Since 1994, he has lectured at the Kaunas Faculty of Design of the Vilnius Academy of Arts and in 2003 he has been awarded the academic rank of a Docent. In 2013, he was awarded the title of a Professor and became the head of the Kaunas Faculty of Design of the Vilnius Academy of Arts.
He has more than three decades of experience of working with leading Lithuanian and multinational companies, mostly involving graphic & industrial design projects. Also, he has worked in the academia for over two decades - specializing in the discipline of graphic design. Throughout the years he has been an active participant in numerous exhibitions, contests, art workshops both in Lithuania and abroad.
As of late, Virgilijus has spent more time on his artistic work. In 2010, he founded the international paper design exhibition – POPIERUKAS. Virgilijus’ recent paper cutting solo exhibitions have been on display in the European Parliament, the National Library of the Czech Republic and the gallery of the University of Katowice. Also, as a part of a joint Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian artist initiative, his works have been on tour in the Baltic States.
His personal works are currently on display in private collections in Belgium, Bulgaria, Germany, Great Britain, India, Lithuania, Poland and the Netherlands.
He is also a member of the International Council of Design (ico-D) and the Lithuanian Graphic Design Association (LGDA).
